Pakistan's nuclear arsenal should be under the surveillance of the UN's nuclear agency, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on May 15, following last week's four days of conflict between Islamabad and New Delhi.
"I want to put this question to the world... is Pakistan's nuclear arsenal safe?" Singh said to troops at a base in Kashmir, adding: "Pakistan's nuclear arsenal should be brought under the scrutiny of IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)."
"...I would like to ask the entire world if nuclear weapons are safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation (Pakistan). I believe that Pakistan's nuclear weapons should be taken under the supervision of IAEA," said Singh.
Delivering a strong message from the military Cantonment, Singh stressed that India has never advocated war, but "when our sovereignty is attacked, we will respond." He added that Operation Sindoor marks the most significant action India has taken against terrorism.
Singh began his high-stakes visit to Jammu and Kashmir to assess the overall security scenario, particularly along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. This is his first visit to the region since the launch of Operation Sindoor.
