U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged an arrest detainer against an Indian national indicted in Ohio after authorities said he led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a fatal crash, killing a pregnant 17-year-old and her unborn child.
The Department of Homeland Security announced April 3 that the detainer had been placed on Tarsem Singh, who is being held on a $1 million bond by local authorities in connection with the Feb. 16 crash in Darke County, Ohio.

According to local reports, the crash occurred after a Darke County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Singh for speeding on State Route 47. Authorities said Singh fled, leading deputies on a pursuit of about five miles that reached speeds of 124 mph.
Singh was driving a 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar westbound when the SUV crossed the center line near Ansonia-Hunchbarger Road and struck an oncoming 2016 Jeep Cherokee head-on.
Ashlee Holmes, 17, who was a passenger in Singh’s vehicle and was pregnant, was ejected from the SUV and died in the crash, according to local media reports citing authorities. Her unborn child also died.
The driver of the Jeep suffered injuries but was reported to be conscious and alert after the collision. Singh was also injured and taken to a hospital before being arrested, according to local reports.
A Darke County grand jury indicted Singh on two counts each of involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide and aggravated vehicular homicide, along with one count each of vehicular assault and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, according to local reports.
“This is yet another tragic reminder of why illegal aliens should not be driving cars on America’s roads,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement.
“A 17-year-old woman and her unborn child are now dead as a result of this illegal alien’s reckless actions. We have lodged an arrest detainer with Ohio authorities to ensure this illegal alien is never released and allowed back behind the wheel to put more innocent lives at risk,” he added.
DHS said Singh entered the United States illegally through the southern border in California in February 2017 and was later released on bond after being arrested. He remains in local custody.
