Political advocacy group Indian American Impact endorsed Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman in the race for mayor of Los Angeles on April 17.
In a post on X, the group said Raman would “lead with honesty and urgency-fighting to lower rents, protect tenants’ rights, support small businesses, keep communities safe, and ensure the city is prepared for emergencies before they happen.”

The endorsement adds to a series of recent announcements from advocacy organizations. The Housing Action Coalition said on April 8 that its 501(c)(4) arm had endorsed Raman in the 2026 mayoral race, describing her as “the clear pro-housing candidate in this race, fighting for affordability for all Angelenos.”

Transportation advocacy group Streets For All endorsed Raman on April 7, stating, “With deep knowledge of progressive transportation and housing policy combined with insider experience, Nithya is the change agent LA so desperately needs.”
Raman, who represents Council District 4, entered the 2026 mayoral race earlier this year, centering her campaign on housing affordability, homelessness, and governance reform. An urban planner by training, she first gained prominence as the co-founder of the SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition, a grassroots organization focused on addressing homelessness in Los Angeles.
She was elected to the City Council in 2020 after unseating a two-term incumbent, running on a platform focused on tenant protections, housing-first policies, and expanding social services. During her tenure, she has backed measures aimed at expanding affordable housing, strengthening renter protections, and increasing oversight of homelessness spending.
Her campaign has also pointed to early polling as a sign of momentum. In a post on X, Raman wrote, “OUR CAMPAIGN IS SURGING,” citing a Loyola Marymount University poll that showed her leading the race with about 32.5 percent support, nearly double that of incumbent Mayor Karen Bass.
The Los Angeles mayoral election is scheduled to be held on June 2. If no candidate secures a majority, a runoff election will take place on Nov. 3
