Mandeep Singh Dhillon was arrested by the Punjab Police on Jan. 19 from Ganganagar district in Rajasthan in relation to the murder of his wife, Prabhjot Kaur, a resident of Waraich village in Gurdaspur, who had recently returned from Austria with her husband and their six-month-old son to attend a family function.
The couple was staying at Hotel Fairway, located on Court Road in Amritsar, where Kaur was found dead by the police after they received a call from the staff, notifying them of a lack of movement in their room for an extended period.

The authorities had to force entry into the room, following which they located the victim's body under a bed.
Police said that Dhillon had escaped from the hotel room after committing the crime, and Kaur was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon that was recovered from his possession.
Kaur's family alleged that Dhillon committed the murder out of suspicion regarding her character.
Following his arrest, Dhillon was produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody for three days.
