The City of Elk Grove, California, in partnership with USA Sanatan Cultural & Sports Association and the Diversity & Inclusion Commission, hosted its 6th Annual Diwali celebration on Oct.13.
The celebration featured vibrant cultural performances, a fashion show, and an interfaith diya (lamp) lighting ceremony.
Community leader Bhavin Parikh, the lead organizer of the festivities, said in a statement, “This festival celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil,”
He added, “It’s a joy to see our community come together in such a meaningful way.”

As part of the celebration, public officials and community leaders shared heartfelt remarks, while guests enjoyed complimentary dinner and traditional Diwali sweets.
Elk Grove City Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen emphasized Elk Grove’s commitment to inclusion and remarked, “We are one of the most diverse cities in the United States. We are a city that is welcome to all.”
The organizers also expressed their appreciation for California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recognition of Diwali as a state holiday. Highlighting the recognition, the festivities enter its second leg with another Diwali event scheduled at the California State Capitol in Sacramento on Oct. 28.
