Indian-origin basketball coach Sonia Raman has agreed to a multiyear deal to become the new head coach of the Seattle Storm, ESPN reported. Raman, currently an assistant coach with the New York Liberty, becomes the first person of Indian origin to serve as a head coach in the Women’s National Basketball Association.
The Storm moved to fill the role after the departure of Noelle Quinn, whose contract was not renewed following Seattle’s first-round playoff exit to the Las Vegas Aces. Quinn went 97-89 in five seasons after taking over mid-season in 2021, a period that included Seattle’s 2020 championship run under interim head coach Gary Kloppenburg when Dan Hughes was medically unavailable.
