University of New South Wales opens first Indian campus in Bengaluru
Prospective students have already participated in campus tours and information sessions ahead of the start of classes on Aug. 10.

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) officially opened its first campus in India on July 31, expanding the Australian university's global footprint and strengthening education ties between the two countries.
Located in Bengaluru's Embassy Manyata Business Park, the campus will welcome its inaugural cohort of students on Aug. 10.
It will initially offer undergraduate programs in business, computational data science, computer science and cybersecurity, with degrees awarded under the same academic governance and quality standards as UNSW Sydney.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by UNSW vice-chancellor and president Attila Brungs, Australian Assistant Minister for International Education Julian Hill, Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green, Karnataka Minister for Large Industries and Infrastructure Development M.B. Patil, academic partners, alumni and industry representatives.
Brungs said the campus reflects the university's long-term commitment to India and the Australia-India education partnership.
“The opening of our Bengaluru campus reflects both our confidence in India's extraordinary talent ecosystem and our long-term commitment to strengthening the Australia–India education partnership through our Progress for All strategy,” he said.
“This new campus in Bengaluru will create exciting opportunities for students, researchers and industry to work together, advancing knowledge, strengthening skills and preparing the next generation of leaders to address shared global challenges,” Assistant Minister Hill said.
UNSW Bengaluru rector Payyazhi Vadakkekara Jayashree said the campus combines the university's academic standards with Bengaluru's thriving technology ecosystem, creating opportunities for industry collaboration and student development.
“We look forward to welcoming our first students and creating a learning environment that supports academic success, personal growth and meaningful industry engagement,” Jayashree said.
The campus will focus on disciplines aligned with India's National Education Policy 2020 and workforce demand, including artificial intelligence, digital technologies, advanced manufacturing and sustainability. Students will also have access to UNSW's global alumni network of more than 400,000 graduates.
The campus is the culmination of a process that began in 2022, when UNSW began exploring opportunities to establish a presence in India. The project received regulatory approval from India's University Grants Commission before recruiting its inaugural academic and professional staff.
