Thousands gathered in Milpitas, California, to mark India’s 77th Republic Day on Jan. 25.
The event hosted by the Association of Indo Americans (AIA) at the India Community Center in Milpitas, California, also drew over 15 elected officials.

Consul General of India in San Francisco Srikar Reddy attended the event and greeted the community on the occasion, while Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren sent a virtual message.

Ro Khanna), Assemblymembers Ash Kalra and Alex Lee, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, Santa Clara County Supervisor Otto Lee, Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan, Sunnyvale Mayor Larry Klein, San Carlos Mayor Pranita Venkatesh, Saratoga Vice Mayor Tina Walia, Los Altos Vice Mayor Neysa Fligor, Fremont Mayor Emerita Lily Mei, Fremont Unified School District Board Members Vivek Prasad and Rinu Nair, and community leader Ajay Bhutoria.
Speakers referred to India’s continued practice of democratic principles and said Republic Day serves as a moment to reflect on civic rights and responsibilities. They also noted the historical struggles faced by many nations to achieve independence and sovereignty, urging communities to preserve and learn from those experiences.

Representatives from AIA’s supporting organizations addressed the gathering ahead of the official segment, extending Republic Day greetings and underscoring inter-community cooperation.
The event included cultural programs, including AIA Idol singing competitions and patriotic dance performances.

The Association of Indo Americans, supported by more than 50 nonprofit organizations across the San Francisco and Silicon Valley Bay Area, works to provide a platform for celebrating Indian American heritage while promoting civic engagement and collaboration.
