International scholar Yash Gupta explored the relationship between Sanskrit scriptures and modern scientific thought during a June 29 community gathering in Silicon Valley.
The event, hosted by Americans4Hindus and Britons4Hindus at the Fremont home of Romesh Japra and his wife Sunita Japra, featured Gupta's keynote address on "Science in Sanskrit Scriptures."
Gupta, president of Britons4Hindus, cited verses from the Bhagavad Gita and discussed concepts from Hindu philosophy that he said parallel contemporary ideas in mathematics, astronomy, medicine and consciousness.

A central focus of his address was the Sanskrit invocation "Om Purnamadah Purnamidam," which he described as expressing the concepts of wholeness and infinity. Gupta said the philosophical ideas reflected in the verse have contributed to discussions on mathematical abstraction and the development of the concept of zero.
He also spoke about the launch of Britons4Hindus, saying the organization seeks to promote civic participation, leadership development and community engagement among Hindus in the United Kingdom while encouraging the values of Sanatana Dharma.
Japra, founder and chairman of Americans4Hindus and Britons4Hindus, outlined the organizations' vision of strengthening collaboration among Hindu communities through education, leadership and public service. He said Americans4Hindus has expanded its presence to 38 U.S. states through its network of state political action committees and community initiatives.
Organizers also recognized several candidates seeking public office in California, including candidates for city councils in Fremont, Cupertino and Milpitas, and school board positions in Sunnyvale during the gathering.
According to the organizers, the event was intended to promote dialogue on civic engagement, cultural preservation and leadership while strengthening ties among Hindu communities in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Participants described the keynote address as an opportunity to examine the intersection of ancient Hindu philosophy and modern scientific inquiry.
