Prateek Patel and Ajit Patel, uncle and nephew and co-owners of Kiddie Academy® of Cornelius and Kiddie Academy of Lake Norman, are the new owner/operators of Kiddie Academy of Asheville, N.C. / Kiddie Academy
Indian-American entrepreneurs Prateek Patel and Ajit Patel have taken over ownership of Kiddie Academy of Asheville following the retirement of the previous owner.
The uncle-nephew duo, who also own and operate Kiddie Academy of Cornelius and Kiddie Academy of Lake Norman, said they plan to expand the Asheville facility to meet what they described as growing demand for child care in the region, particularly for infants and toddlers.

“One of our top priorities is to continue to provide reliable support for families and children in Asheville, just as we have for nearly three years,” Prateek Patel said. “As lifelong residents of the area, we understand the needs of our community and are committed to providing the best care with the best teachers and a curriculum that exceeds state standards.”
Since assuming control of operations, the Patels have opened a new classroom for 3-year-olds and said a new infant room will open soon. With the additions, the academy’s capacity is expected to rise to more than 172 children in Western North Carolina.
The new owners said they are investing in staffing and operations, bringing in experienced directors and educators to strengthen the center’s programs.
The Patels have backgrounds in the hospitality industry spanning several decades and have been involved in early childhood education through their other Kiddie Academy locations.
Kiddie Academy of Asheville is located at 22 Walden Ridge Drive and employs 22 educators. The facility includes nine classrooms and a large playground.
Kiddie Academy, founded in 1981 and headquartered in Abingdon, Maryland, operates more than 350 academies across 40 states and the District of Columbia, serving more than 38,000 children, according to the company. Each location in the system is independently owned and operated.
