Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS) announced that the 19th edition of its annual “Yoga for Health, Health for Humanity Yogathon,” also known as the Surya Namaskar Yajna (SNY), will be held from Jan. 14 to Feb. 1.

The nationwide program is aimed at promoting health awareness and collective wellness and is open to participants of all ages and backgrounds across the United States.

According to HSS, the initiative encourages individuals and community groups to begin the year with a focus on physical and mental well-being through the practice of Surya Namaskar.

Surya Namaskar is a yogic sequence performed in reverence to the sun and consists of 10 postures carried out in a continuous flow. The practice is associated with both physical and psychological benefits when performed regularly, the organization said.

HSS said the Yogathon seeks to promote the practice among Americans who aspire to maintain physical fitness and mental balance. Since the program’s inception in 2007, participants from 43 U.S. states have taken part through yoga centers, community organizations, schools, colleges, and individual participation.

Over the years, more than four million Surya Namaskars have been performed as part of the initiative.

The organization said the scale of participation reflects the program’s emphasis on inclusivity across communities, regardless of faith or belief, while promoting public health and well-being.

The Yogathon has also received recognition from public officials at various levels of government, including proclamations from mayors, governors, members of the U.S. Congress, and U.S. Senators.

The initiative was entered into the Congressional Record in 2017. In 2012, HSS was recognized as a partner in the “Let’s Move” initiative launched by then First Lady Michelle Obama.

The 2026 edition of the Health for Humanity Yogathon will continue to be organized nationwide through local chapters and participating institutions, HSS said.
