The Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh K. Patnaik, showed a deep and pervasive sense of optimism in Indo-Canadian ties, diminishing the significance of recent tensions and attributing the close ties to the unchanged building blocks of the relationship, while talking to CBC News.
The Indian envoy was speaking in the backdrop of the recently concluded dialogue between the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney about the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) or the Free Trade Deal, at the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.
Patnaik's appointment came earlier this year as a sign of thawing relations between the two countries. The ties were marred by allegations and counter-allegations about India's role in political assassinations in Canada and about Canada's support to pro-Khalistani factions operating out of Canada.

The High commissioner talked about the proposed Free Trade Deal between the countries and expressed optimism over the signing of the same. He highlighted the improving ties between the two countries, noting that ties between the two started improving since the two Prime Ministers Kananiskis during the G7 summit.
