Indian American alumnus endows research awards at IIT Kharagpur
The two endowments will support faculty research and autonomous systems education.

Indian American Abhijit Chaudhury has established two academic endowments at his alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, the IITKGP Foundation announced.
The endowments are the Best Faculty Research Award in Memory of N. P. Rao and K. C. Sahu and the Chaudhury Family (Bishnu Pada, Pratima, Biswa Nath, and Madhuri) chair professorship in Autonomous Systems Design.

Together, they aim to strengthen research in Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Autonomous Systems Design while supporting faculty excellence.
The Best Faculty Research Award honors two IIT Kharagpur professors whose mentorship shaped generations of engineers and researchers.
It will recognize outstanding faculty research in Advanced Manufacturing Systems and provide recipients with a three-year honorarium to encourage continued innovation and scholarly excellence.
The endowed chair, established by Chaudhury and his wife, Banani Chaudhury, honors their parents and family elders.
It will support teaching and research in autonomous systems while helping the institute attract and retain exceptional faculty in one of the fastest-growing areas of technology.
According to the IITKGP Foundation, the endowments reflect Chaudhury's desire to honor the educators who played a transformative role in his career while investing in future generations of scholars and innovators.
The foundation said the gifts will strengthen IIT Kharagpur's research ecosystem and reinforce its commitment to faculty excellence, mentorship, and technological leadership as the institute approaches its Platinum Jubilee.
Chaudhury began his career as a senior engineer at Larsen & Toubro before holding leadership positions with multinational organizations in the Middle East.
He later earned a Ph.D. in Management from Purdue University after completing a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering in 1972 and an M.Tech in Industrial Engineering in 1974 at IIT Kharagpur. He has served on the faculties of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Massachusetts Boston and is currently a professor of Information Systems and Analytics at Bryant University in Rhode Island.
