Spy-action thriller Dhurandhar became the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time in India, earning about $92 million (approximately INR 831 crore) in net domestic collections after 33 days in theaters.

The announcement made by Jio Studios on Jan. 7 positioned the Aditya Dhar–directed film past the Hindi-language total of Pushpa 2: The Rise, which had collected about $91 million (approximately INR 821 crore) in India.

The milestone was also highlighted by the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), which said in a social media post that Dhurandhar had made history as “the highest-grossing Indian film ever in a single language,” and confirmed that a sequel to the film is in development.

The film’s performance has drawn praise from across the industry. Filmmaker Karan Johar publicly congratulated the team, writing on Instagram, “Congratulations to Team Dhurandhar for being the no 1 film in Hindi! So incredibly deserving… My favourite film of the year!!!”

Speaking at public events, Johar said, “I was like, blown away by Dhurandhar. It makes you feel like, ‘Oh my craft is limited compared to this.’ Oh my god, look at the use of background music.” He added, “What I loved about Dhurandhar was that I didn’t feel that the director was self-aware. I felt his intention was only to tell the story.”

He concluded, “It made me question my ability as a filmmaker, and that’s always a good thing for me.”

Released in December 2025, Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. The film has also posted strong overseas numbers, with industry estimates putting its worldwide total at more than $150 million.
