Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, appeared on the Oscars red carpet in a black Manish Malhotra saree at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 15.
She wore a black saree featuring intricate gold floral embroidery, paired with a sleeveless blouse and gold jewelry. The sheer drape completed the look.
Her makeup artist, Kristene Bernard, later shared photos of Bajaria on Instagram showing her wearing the saree.
Born in London, Bajaria moved to the United States as a child. She began her Hollywood career in 1996 after securing an assistant role at CBS through a letter-writing campaign to studios. She later rose to become vice president of movies and miniseries at the network.
Bajaria then joined Universal Television, where she became the first woman of color to lead the studio. She moved to Netflix in 2016 to oversee unscripted content and licensing and was appointed chief content officer in 2023.
On March 15, Netflix won seven Academy Awards, tying its record for the most wins in a single year, previously set in 2021.
The wins included animated feature film for ‘KPop Demon Hunters’; documentary short film for ‘All the Empty Rooms’; live action short film for ‘The Singers’; original song for ‘Golden’ from ‘KPop Demon Hunters’; and costume design, makeup and hairstyling, and production design for ‘Frankenstein’.
