Hegseth to visit Indo-Pacific to bolster U.S. defence ties

The visit comes as Washington continues to counterbalance China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific and strengthen collective deterrence through allied cooperation.

U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth will travel to the Indo-Pacific early next week, underscoring Washington’s “peace through strength” approach and urging allies to increase defence spending amid rising regional tensions, the Department of War said Oct. 26.

The trip will take Hegseth to Hawaii, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, and South Korea — a sweep of nations central to the United States’ security strategy in Asia.
