U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal questioned the Democratic Party’s refusal to take a stand on Gaza, noting that the party should not repeat the mistakes made by former President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Jayapal, a senior whip of the Democratic Caucus, has long questioned the United States’ position on Gaza in the long-running Israel-Palestine conflict. She recently revealed in a post on X that she had warned both Biden and Harris against the move and was sidelined over political scorecard concerns.
She said, “Democrats are finally admitting it. Harris lost support over Gaza. And here’s the thing, I was warning Biden and Harris for over a year, personally, in numerous direct conversations with each of them.”

Jayapal continued, “I kept saying that our refusal to hold the Israeli government accountable over the destruction and genocide in Gaza was morally, legally, and politically wrong. We kept being told it’s not in the numbers, that changing course was too risky or too liberal.”
Jayapal described the decision taken by the Biden-Harris administration and Harris’ stance on the issue during her presidential campaign as “risk aversion dressed up as wisdom.” She added that the move was not a strategy and “helped shape a crisis,” referring to what she described as emboldened attacks on Gaza by Israeli forces.
Highlighting the alleged consequences of past decisions made by Democratic leaders, she said, “The Israeli government is still pummeling Gaza with bombs.”
She continued, “And now instead of telling Netanyahu not to attack Iran, Trump started an illegal war in Iran when there was no imminent threat to the U.S. and without any congressional approval.”
I warned Biden and Harris directly: Our silence on Gaza was morally, legally, and politically wrong.

We were told it wasn't in the data. That wasn't strategy – it was risk aversion dressed up as wisdom.

Jayapal urged Democrats not to remain silent ahead of the upcoming midterms.
“We can’t shy away from talking openly about Gaza. We can’t be afraid to call out Trump’s endless wars. When leaders ignore the people, the consequences aren’t just political, they’re global,” she said.
Urging support to end the Iran war, Jayapal added, “I know together we can end this war and we can stop Trump’s endless wars. One vote, one donation, one act of resistance at a time.”
A U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, reached in October 2025, has largely held into March 2026, though low-level clashes and targeted operations continue in Gaza.
Both sides report ongoing violations of the agreement, with Palestinian authorities citing civilian casualties from Israeli strikes and Israeli forces pointing to Hamas reasserting control and security threats in parts of the territory.
