Indian-origin Democratic congressmen were disappointed once again as the House rejected another attempt at clearing a War Powers resolution on April 16.
Having already failed multiple times in the past, the War Powers resolution is the Democratic attempt at reining in President Donald Trump’s power to continue military action in Iran without congressional approval.
Talking about the vote, where most Congress members toed their party lines, Rep. Ami Bera accused his Republican colleagues of continuing “to put their loyalty to this president over the needs of the American people.”
I just voted again to end Donald Trump’s war with Iran.

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam also blamed Republicans and said, “Instead of blindly backing the president, the House GOP should join us to make life better for the American people.”
The representative from Virginia also accused President Trump of “spending billions a day on a war of choice that has only caused more problems in the region and raised gas prices here at home.”
He continued, “Meanwhile, he cut health care and raised costs on Americans because he said we didn’t have the money.”
Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi noted that the war is putting American lives at risk and is driving up costs at home.
Krishnamoorthi also attacked the GOP for its position and accused it of giving the president a pass on continuing an “unauthorized, illegal war with Iran.”

Rep. Pramila Jayapal also attacked the Republican position on the ongoing war and said, “All but one Republican voted no on reining in Trump and demanding a stop to the war in Iran.”
She continued, “They’re fine with raising your gas prices and letting more people die. When will Republicans finally stand up?”
JUST NOW: All but ONE Republican voted NO on reining in Trump and demanding a stop to the war in Iran.

They’re fine with raising your gas prices and letting more people die. When will Republicans finally stand up?
Democrats expressed deep concern that the United States risks becoming entangled in another prolonged Middle East conflict. They vowed to continue pressing the issue with additional War Powers resolution votes in the coming weeks.
The measure failed in the House by a razor-thin 213-214 margin, just one day after a similar effort was defeated in the Senate. The U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, and a fragile ceasefire is now in its second week.
The April 16 vote saw only one person from each side vote against the dominant party position: Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky was the only Republican to support the resolution, and Rep. Jared Golden of Maine was the only Democrat to vote against it.
