The initiative is designed to enable co-development of globally scalable education and innovation models.
IIT Madras will also work with Stages Consulting in New Jersey to support deep-tech startups and academic programs by providing mentoring, funding access, and fully equipped infrastructure near Princeton, along with customer linkages in the U.S. market.
The collaboration will focus on accelerating commercialization of research and intellectual property emerging from IIT Madras.
In the U.S. West Coast, IIT Madras will partner with startups to establish a regional presence in California.
The partnership will offer soft-landing support, operational assistance, corporate networks and dedicated infrastructure for startups, research programs and academic initiatives, while facilitating industry collaborations and market access in emerging technology sectors.
These U.S. initiatives will be anchored through the IIT Madras Global Research Foundation, a multinational platform launched on Jan. 2 at the IIT Madras campus by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
The foundation aims to position IIT Madras as a globally networked hub for research, deep-tech innovation, entrepreneurship and education.
Addressing the launch event, Jaishankar said the overseas expansion of Indian institutions strengthens India’s global engagement and foreign policy outreach. He pointed to international campuses and collaborations as a way for India to leverage its human resource strengths globally.
