The Michigan Board of Pharmacy, established under the state’s Public Health Code, oversees the practice of pharmacy and is responsible for promoting and protecting public health, safety and welfare. Its duties include oversight related to the safe and effective prescribing, dispensing, administering and use of drugs and related products.
At Flint Community Schools, Shantaram has served as a school improvement coordinator since October 2022. Her work includes supporting student achievement, leading school improvement initiatives, analyzing data to guide decisions, coordinating intervention programs and working with staff and community partners.
Shantaram holds a Bachelor of Science in education with a concentration in social science and a Master of Arts in early childhood education, both from the University of Michigan.
She has also participated in Genesee County's Indian Heritage Month activities. A 2025 county event identified Shantaram as a commissioner and highlighted the county's recognition of Indian heritage.
Whitmer's Aug. 20 announcement included appointments to several other state bodies, including the Human Trafficking Health Advisory Board, Michigan Blueberry Commission, Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice, Michigan Travel Commission, Michigan Soybean Committee, Farm Produce Insurance Authority, Michigan Wheat Promotion Committee and Elevator Safety Board.
