Within hours of President Trump delivering his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress, Democratic Congress members rallied against Trump's speech with 'fact-checks' and personal barbs.
Trump, who delivered what could be one of the most significant speeches in the run-up to the upcoming November midterm elections, went on a trademark offensive against his Democratic counterparts, attacking Democrats and hailing his administration's work.
Trump claimed that inflation, mortgage rates and gas prices are falling, while the stock market, oil production and foreign direct investment are booming, along with construction and factory jobs.
Reacting to the President's address, Congressman Shri Thanedar hit back at Trump with a list of '47 fact-checks for the 47th President.' Listing the alleged factual discrepancies, Thanedar said, "While tonight's SOTU was full of lies, rest assured that I will always fight to lower your costs and hold Trump accountable for the damage he is doing to our community."

The congressman representing Michigan accused Trump of siding with billionaires and targeted him on a host of other issues, such as high inflation, the targeting of legal immigrants by "Trump's ICE goons," and Trump's tariff policy, claiming, "This idiot still thinks foreign countries pay tariffs. American businesses and consumers pay tariffs."
Rep. Suhas Subramanyam also expressed anguish over the speech and said, “President Trump’s speech made one thing clear: he is not living in the same reality as the American people."
He further noted, "He (Trump) claimed prices are down, inflation is lower, and life is better than it was a year ago. Families at the grocery store and small business owners balancing their books know better. They feel the squeeze every single day."
Congressman Subramanyam also marked his protest against Trump's handling of the Epstein issue and was joined by Sky and Amanda, the brother and sister-in-law of Virginia Roberts Giuffre, for the State of the Union. Giuffre was one of the victims and whistleblowers against Epstein and many other notable figures.
Congressman Ami Bera also backed Democratic claims and accused Trump of "political games." He said, "My first duty is to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United States."
Rep. Pramila Jayapal chose to skip the State of the Union address and instead led what she described as the 'People’s State of the Union.' The event is a parallel address organized by Democrats and will feature lawmakers and others impacted by the administration's policies.
Jayapal will join over 30 other Democrat lawmakers along with "Epstein survivors, families hurt by ICE, fired public health workers, Americans losing healthcare benefits and struggling with rising costs and others impacted by Trump’s dangerous agenda," according to the event's cohost MoveOn.org.
Jayapal described Trump's address as "full of lies." She added, "The truth is that costs are up, unemployment is up, and people are struggling. Attempts to scapegoat immigrants and trans people won’t change those truths."
Jayapal also followed in Subramanyam's footsteps and attended the People’s State of the Union with Lauren Hersh, the co-director of World Without Exploitation, as her guest.
