Sanjyot Dunung, a small business owner and longtime entrepreneur, announced her candidacy for Congress on May 12 from Illinois’ 8th District—the same district currently represented by Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi.
Krishnamoorthi, earlier this month, announced his bid for US Senate seat.
A mother of three, including a son in the military, Dunung is running as a first-time candidate with a message of change, calling for fresh leadership that prioritizes “people over politics”.
Dunung, who grew up in Des Plaines as the daughter of Indian immigrants, said her campaign is driven by concerns she’s heard from residents across the district. “After listening to folks in my community, I’m running for Congress because the promise of the American Dream is under threat. People are tired of career politicians who fail to deliver meaningful results,” she said. “As the candidate for change, I will deliver fresh, responsible ideas to tackle economic chaos and uncertainty.”
