Zohran Mamdani took the oath as New York City's first Indian-origin mayor on Jan. 1 on the steps of City Hall, with his parents and wife occupying front-row seats along with democrats and fellow New Yorkers in attendance.
Mamdani was sworn in by Senator Bernie Sanders and took the oath of office on two Korans, held by his wife, Rama Duwaji.
