Zohran Mamdani: The Mayor New York Deserves

Mamdani understands that families thrive when every part of civic life connects.

As one of the newest and proudest residents to call New York home, I've experienced this city's contradictions up close—unmatched energy alongside deep inequities. As an immigrant-American, a woman, a person of color, a professional, and a lifelong New Yorker, I am quintessentially what New York City stands for - a culturally diverse potpourri. While it’s exhilarating to live in what I consider the greatest city in the world, I've watched affordable housing slip out of reach, healthcare gaps persist, schools struggle, and climate change worsen our quality of life. That's why I believe Zohran Mamdani is the best choice for mayor—a leader whose values and record align with what New York needs most: courage, compassion, and competence.

Health, Education, Housing and Climate as One Ecosystem

Mamdani understands that families thrive when every part of civic life connects. His plans for universal childcare, expanded school services, and mental health support reflect a vision of equity built on opportunity, not austerity. Mamdani treats housing as a moral issue, with tenant rights’ protection and safe housing for everyone. These aren't empty promises. As an assemblymember, he joined a 15-day hunger strike with the Taxi Workers Alliance to fight for fair debt relief, helping secure a historic victory for drivers crushed by medallion loans. That's what integrity in public service looks like: showing up, personally, for working people.

His climate proposals—greener transit, cleaner air, and investments in frontline neighborhoods—tie environmental action to everyday life. For him, sustainability isn't an abstraction; it's a promise to make the city livable for everyone.

Standing with Workers, Not Wealth

Mamdani's record stands out in a city too often run for the rich and powerful. He's direct about raising wages, protecting unions, and ensuring the wealthy pay their share. He's a democratic socialist, yes—but more importantly, he's an authentic public servant who believes government must work for people, not profit.

Why It Matters to Me

Having spent 25 years in corporate America, I value leaders who live their convictions with integrity, not calculation. Mamdani walks the talk. His hunger strikes, his housing fights, his refusal to treat politics as performance—all show he leads from the front.

Sanatana Dharma, the philosophical foundation of Hinduism, espouses acceptance, tolerance, inclusion, and service for the benefit of others. I was inspired to join Hindus For Zohran, a vibrant group of progressive Hindu New Yorkers who, like me, recognize in Mamdani's value system principles that align with the dharmic ideals of fairness, dignity, and collective well-being.

A Vote for Integrity and Imagination

This election isn't about ideology—it's about direction. Mamdani's policy framework is pragmatic in execution, moral in intent, and rooted in universal values of fairness, dignity, and solidarity. He represents the best of New York's spirit: resilient, inclusive, and ready to fight for a city where everyone can belong.

I'll be proud to vote for Zohran Mamdani—and I urge every New Yorker who wants a fairer, more livable future to do the same.
