Voiland College names Narasimha Boddeti Dean’s Faculty Fellow
He was recognized for advancing engineering research through innovative work in computational mechanics, additive manufacturing, architected materials and composites.

Indian-origin academic Narasimha Boddeti has earned the distinction of the dean’s faculty fellow at Washington State University (WashU) Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture in recognition of his contributions to research, teaching and service.
A Berry Family assistant professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Boddeti is among five faculty members selected for the fellowship. The fellowship recognizes faculty members whose work advances the college’s mission while creating opportunities for students and colleagues.
Boddeti leads research spanning computational mechanics, topology optimization, additive manufacturing, architected materials and composites. His work combines computational modeling with advanced manufacturing techniques to develop materials and structures with tailored properties. His research has applications in areas including aerospace, infrastructure and soft robotics.

In 2024, Boddeti received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, a five-year grant supporting his research on soft architected materials. The work explores integrating liquids within 3D-printed solids to mimic the behavior of biological tissues, potentially opening new applications in biomedical engineering and soft robotics.

His work exemplifies the innovation, creativity, and commitment to excellence that define our college and position WSU as a leader in engineering research,” Partha Pande, dean of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture said in a statement.
Boddeti holds a Btech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and a PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder.
The Dean’s Fellows program, established in 2025 through donor support, provides multi-year awards to faculty members to expand research programs, enhance student experiences and pursue emerging opportunities in their fields.
