Indian American Congressman Suhas Subramanyam launched his re-election campaign in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District on Jan. 12 seeking a second term.

Subramanyam was first elected to Congress in 2024 in one of the most competitive House races in the country, succeeding former Rep. Jennifer Wexton Wexton.

In the campaign announcement, he said, “Over the past year, I have fought back against the Trump Administration’s attacks on our community when he took away healthcare, food, and jobs from Virginians,” and said he wants to continue serving in Congress and work toward a Democratic majority.

According to the campaign, Subramanyam has built a record centered on constituent services. In his first 100 days in office, he held a town hall in every county in Virginia’s 10th District. His office has sent more than 48,000 letters and email responses, resolved more than 2,000 constituent cases and returned more than $3 million to constituents.

In his first term, Subramanyam has introduced 19 bills, many of them bipartisan, signed onto more than 500 bills and letters, and secured more than $15 million in funding for local projects.

Endorsing his re-election bid, Wexton said, “I’m excited to endorse Suhas in his re-election campaign,” and credited him with “delivering millions of dollars back to constituents and funding important local community projects.”

Wexton lauded him stating he has done “an exceptional job assisting constituents in times of need and uplifting their voices,” and said she believes he will continue to do so if Democrats regain a House majority.

Senator Mark Warner said Subramanyam “has effectively pushed back on the corruption of the Trump administration as a member of the Oversight Committee,” and said his “commitment to standing up for Virginians and holding this administration accountable” was the reason for his endorsement.

Senator Tim Kaine said Subramanyam has focused on “lowering costs and standing up to the Trump Administration’s efforts to drive our economy into the ground, kick federal workers around, and rip health care away from millions of families,” and said he was supporting Subramanyam’s bid to continue “putting Virginians first.”

Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, which includes parts of Northern Virginia, has been trending Democratic in recent election cycles, but party strategists consider the seat critical in a cycle where control of the U.S. House is expected to be closely contested.

The next election for the seat will be held on Nov. 3, as part of the U.S. midterm elections. Virginia’s congressional primaries are scheduled for June 16.
