Regulatory gaps and geopolitical tensions with China and India could threaten the safety and stability of the nation’s pharmaceutical supply chain, two senior U.S. senators said, warning of America’s growing dependence on foreign-made generic drugs.
Senate Special Committee on Ageing Chairman Rick Scott, a Republican from Florida, and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democrat from New York, have sent letters to the chief executives of three major group purchasing organizations — Vizient, Premier Inc., and HealthTrust Performance Group — seeking information on vulnerabilities in sourcing foreign-manufactured medications.
