Five US lawmakers urge Trump to reconsider H-1B Visa curbs

Five influential US lawmakers have urged President Donald Trump to reverse his administration’s Sept. 19 proclamation restricting H-1B visa entries, warning that the move could harm America’s innovation edge and strain relations with India — the country of origin for more than 70 percent of visa holders.

“The H-1B visa program is an important part of why the United States continues to lead in technological innovation,” Congressman Jimmy Panetta said in a statement announcing the letter. “It is needed now more than ever with the recent sharp rise of artificial intelligence.”
