Why US Schools Are Cracking Down on “6-7”

From viral hand gestures to detention slips — how a two-number meme took over America’s schools.

While the slangs with younger generations are always changing, throughout 2025, there is one phrase or two numbers that have rocked the blockbuster chart. “SIX-SEVEN” takes the internet by storm in memes, videos and conversations with people of all diversities and ages specially of Gen Z.

The term “six-seven” also spoken out as “67” or “6-7” has been the highlight among many kids and teenagers. The origin of the phrase that went viral on Tik-Tok and other social medias goes back to a song called “Doot doot” by Philadelphia rapper Skrilla, where “6-7” is a recurring lyric. It’s also sometimes associated with NBA player LaMelo Ball who is 6’7”.
