Trump calls for return of Bagram air base in Afghanistan
The president argued that the base was strategically critical, pointing out its proximity to China.

President Donald Trump said he wants the United States to reclaim Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, blasting its handover as a “gross incompetence” that weakened American security.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after his state visit to the United Kingdom, Trump underscored the importance of the facility. “I’d like to get Bagram back,” he said. “It should have never been given. That was gross incompetence to give that up. You know, it’s one of the most powerful bases in the world in terms of runway strength and length.”
