Judge denies Nikhil Gupta bid for DEA files ahead of Nov. 3 trial

Gupta remains detained as he awaits trial. His lawyers continue to argue that evidence from his phones and post-arrest statements should be suppressed because his rights were violated during the Czech operations.

A U.S. judge in New York has denied Indian national Nikhil Gupta’s request to force prosecutors to turn over additional Drug Enforcement Administration records tied to his arrest in Prague, rejecting defence claims that two DEA officials played such central roles that their files must be searched for possible evidence.

Gupta, also known as “Nick,” has pleaded not guilty to murder-for-hire and conspiracy charges and is scheduled to face trial on Nov. 3, 2025, in the Southern District of New York.
