A Reddit appeal made by an Indian immigrant has gone viral as scores of H-1B visa holders are left stranded in India. The netizen appealed to people who are already in the USA to not book H-1B appointments in the near future so that the ones who have been stranded are able to navigate the overwhelmed system and return to their jobs.
The Trump administration's increased focus on H-1B vetting, including detailed checks of social media accounts of the applicants and their family members, has resulted in a significant rise in wait-time for visa appointments. This has resulted in rescheduling of appointments with applicants witnessing their appointments being pushed by over a month, in many cases.
The Redditor appealed, "Fellow Indians, if you are in the US, and have booked or planning on booking H1B appointments for the month of January/February, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider not booking. Or please cancel your booked appointments."
Titled, 'Humble request from a stranded Indian to fellow Indians in the USA', the user highlighted his angst and said, "PLEASE give us stranded folks here a chance to return to our jobs in the US. We are all deeply stressed. Our families are stressed. We don't have any choice but to wait for slots to open up in Jan and Feb."
