David Lubarsky, president and chief executive officer of WMCHealth, said Desai’s arrival strengthens the health system’s clinical capabilities and surgical innovation.
Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York, Desai returns to the Hudson Valley from Baltimore, where he served as associate professor of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
He performed thousands of complex face, head, and neck surgeries during his tenure and was named by Newsweek as one of the “Top 100 Plastic Surgeons” in the United States.
His clinical expertise includes complex head and neck microvascular reconstruction and facial aesthetic plastic surgery. Desai has also participated in grant-supported surgical and teaching missions in Ukraine, India, Tanzania, and Peru.
At Johns Hopkins, Desai held leadership roles in medical education, serving as associate residency program director for otolaryngology and co-director of the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship.

Desai has published extensively on advanced techniques in microvascular reconstruction and led quality improvement initiatives that increased reconstruction success rates to more than 97 percent. He also served as physician advisor for patient safety and quality in his department.
He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees through a combined seven-year bachelor of arts/ doctor of medicine program at The George Washington University School of Medicine, completed residency training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital of Washington University in St. Louis, and completed a fellowship with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
