Indian American professor Satyajayant “Jay” Misra has been appointed technical program committee co-chair for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) INFOCOM 2026, a leading international conference in computer networking and communications.
The 2026 edition will be held May 18–21 in Tokyo, bringing together researchers, industry experts and academics from around the world.

Misra, who serves as associate dean of research in the College of Engineering at New Mexico State University (NMSU), will share the role with Professor Tian Lan of George Washington University.
“INFOCOM continues to be one of the selective conferences for which networking and cybersecurity researchers work for a year or more to submit a high-quality paper to,” Misra said.
“When I was a student, it was my dream to get a paper into INFOCOM any given year. It continues to be a high-impact venue. INFOCOM 2026 will bring researchers from all continents to spend four days in Tokyo, presenting and discussing cutting-edge research ideas,” he added.
As technical program committee co-chair, Misra is responsible for overseeing the peer-review process conducted by more than 400 researchers worldwide, building the technical program and ensuring the overall quality and impact of the research presented at the conference. It is regarded as one of the most selective forums for presenting advances in networking research.
For the 2026 edition, nearly 1,800 research papers were submitted from institutions worldwide, with about 330 accepted for presentation.
“The paper selection process is multi-level with significant oversight by seasoned researchers in the community, and it is rigorous and selective. The selection process lasts over five months, involving several rounds of anonymous interactions among reviewers for each paper, culminating in a technical program committee meeting where borderline papers are adjudicated.” Misra said..
Misra has been with NMSU for more than 16 years and currently also holds the Nakayama Endowed Professor in engineering position. His research spans wireless and wired networks, security, privacy, survivable network design and high-performance computing.
He previously worked as a research associate at Arizona State University and completed a research internship at Veritas Inc., now part of Symantec.
Misra earned his doctorate in computer science from Arizona State University and a master of science in information systems and physics from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.
