Rep. Bera signs impeachment articles against Kristi Noem
The Indian American lawmaker cites alleged abuses, obstruction under Noem’s leadership at Homeland Security.

Rep. Ami Bera said on Jan. 28 that he has signed on as a cosponsor of articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, citing alleged constitutional violations and misconduct under her leadership.
In a statement released after signing the articles, Bera said that during Noem’s tenure, federal agents have carried out warrantless raids, detained U.S. citizens without cause, and used deadly force without justification in American cities.
“Under Secretary Noem’s watch, we have witnessed federal agents carry out warrantless raids, detain U.S. citizens without cause, and use deadly force unjustifiably on the streets of American cities,” Bera said.

He accused Noem of failing to take responsibility and instead misleading the public and obstructing investigations. Bera said she had “repeatedly lied to the American people and obstructed comprehensive and transparent investigations from taking place.”
Bera said President Donald Trump had shown no willingness to remove Noem from her post, leaving Congress as the only avenue for accountability.
“President Trump has shown no willingness to fire Secretary Noem,” he said. “That leaves Congress with no choice but to act. That is why I am sponsoring articles of impeachment against Secretary Noem.”
He said the Department of Homeland Security, created to protect the public, has instead become an agency that Americans fear.
“The Department of Homeland Security was created to keep Americans safe,” Bera said. “Secretary Noem has turned it into an agency that millions now fear.”
Bera said the impeachment effort is aimed at restoring leadership at DHS that upholds constitutional principles.
“We must restore leadership at DHS that respects the Constitution, due process, and the rule of law,” he said.
