Ramesh Khanna / University of Missouri
The Mizzou Alumni Association named Indian-American physician and academic Ramesh Khanna as the recipient of one of its Gold Standard Awards.
Khanna, director of the Karl D. Nolph, Division of Nephrology and professor in the Department of Medicine at the university, received the Distinguished Faculty Award.
He has been a full-time faculty member at the School of Medicine since 1983 and has led the Division of Nephrology for more than two decades. He is recognized nationally and internationally for his contributions to nephrology and peritoneal dialysis.

Khanna’s work, conducted with colleagues at the University of Missouri and collaborators worldwide, contributed to the development of the Peritoneal Equilibration Test, an international standard used to assess peritoneal dialysis. He also helped introduce the pre-sternal peritoneal dialysis catheter, which is widely used in clinical practice.
Over the course of his career, Khanna has authored or coauthored more than 350 scientific publications, written three books and delivered hundreds of presentations in 67 countries. He has served as editor of Advances in Peritoneal Dialysis since 1985 and has received several national and international honors, including the National Kidney Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.
Khanna has also helped train more than 160 nephrologists, many of whom have gone on to serve as division chiefs, department chairs, program directors and academic leaders in the United States and abroad.
Established in 1960, the Distinguished Faculty Award honors an outstanding faculty member whose achievements have brought distinction to both the individual and the university, with particular emphasis on the recipient’s relationship with students.
