Political commentator Eli Goldstein endorses Shri Thanedar for reelection
The endorsement comes as Thanedar seeks another term in Michigan's 13th Congressional District.

Political commentator Eli Goldstein endorsed Congressman Shri Thanedar for reelection in Michigan's 13th Congressional District, calling him the candidate best positioned to deliver results for Detroit.
Goldstein, creator of the No One Asked, But... platform, announced the endorsement in a post on X, saying the strength of the Democratic caucus depends on leaders who can translate policy into results rather than "focus-grouped talking points."

Although he said he does not live in Michigan, Goldstein said he cares "deeply about the strength of our Democratic caucus and the effectiveness of our representation," adding that this was why he was "officially endorsing Congressman Shri Thanedar for reelection."

"The survival of our democracy isn't decided by focus-grouped talking points in Washington; it's won by leaders who have the operational spine to turn policy into reality," Goldstein wrote.
Goldstein also acknowledged the campaign of Michigan State Rep. Donavan McKinney but said he did not believe McKinney's approach was "the right fit for the specific needs of this district at this moment."
"Governing in Congress is not the same as organizing in the statehouse; it requires a level of coalition-building and a focus on incremental, high-impact results," he wrote.
Praising Thanedar's tenure, Goldstein said the congressman had spent his term "building the relationships required to secure federal funding and deliver for Detroit."
He added that, in a city that has historically been underfunded, the ability to bring federal dollars home "isn't just a talking point, it is a necessity."
Goldstein said the district needs experienced leadership, writing, "We need a representative who knows how to keep the lights on, bring the funding home, and fight for the quiet, essential improvements that make people's lives easier."
He concluded, "I'm backing Shri Thanedar because he is the legislator doing the actual work of institutional advocacy that the 13th District requires."
Thanedar responded to the endorsement on X, writing, "Well said, thank you!!"
The endorsement comes as Thanedar seeks another term in Michigan's 13th Congressional District, where he faces Michigan State Rep. Donavan McKinney in the Democratic primary on Aug. 4.
The race has drawn national attention as progressive groups have rallied behind McKinney, while Thanedar has secured endorsements from senior House Democratic leaders, including House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar.
He has also been endorsed by Reps. Bennie Thompson, Judy Chu, Lou Correa, Ted Lieu, and Tom Suozzi, as well as organizations including the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and the Michigan Machinists Council.
