Following a recent tragic minibus crash on Dubai’s Emirates Road that claimed the lives of seven employees of a company, NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil has stepped in to help. The Chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings announced a ₹2.6 crore (USD 272,890) humanitarian recovery programme to support the families of the deceased and injured.
The minibus reportedly struck the back of a truck that had stalled on the road due to a technical malfunction. Official updates confirmed that the seven fatalities included six Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan national, with workers from Nepal also among the injured.

The support will extend to all individuals impacted by the accident. The families of the seven deceased victims will receive ₹26 lakh ($27,200 approx) each, while ₹47 lakh ($55,000 approx) has been allocated to support the nine injured survivors based on medical and recovery needs.
The package also includes ₹18 lakh ($21,000 approx) for emergency travel and accommodation for family members, and ₹13 lakh ($15,000 approx) to support the education of children from affected families.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Vayalil said the incident was a painful reminder of the sacrifices made by workers who live away from their families to support their loved ones.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy that has affected families across countries. These were workers who came here with hopes, responsibilities, and dreams for their loved ones. No financial support can replace the lives lost, but we hope this assistance will bring some relief to the grieving families and help the injured during their recovery. We stand with every affected family in this difficult time,” Dr. Vayalil said.
The support package is designed to provide immediate relief while helping protect the future of children and families who have lost their primary breadwinners. Special consideration has been given to families with young dependent children, recognizing the long-term impact of this tragedy.
Among the deceased Indians, three were from Uttar Pradesh and three from Telangana. Of the nine injured survivors, eight are Indian nationals, including two from Keralam, while one is a Nepali national. Five of the injured have been discharged, while three Indians are receiving treatment in different hospitals.
Details about the support programme has been communicated to the Indian Consulate in Dubai for coordination regarding affected Indian families and to help ensure that assistance reaches the families and injured individuals.
“While we are coordinating with the Indian Consulate regarding affected Indian families, support will extend to all individuals impacted by this tragedy, in recognition of our shared humanity,” Vayalil said.
