African American singer and longtime India admirer Mary Millben extended Republic Day greetings to India and the Indian diaspora worldwide, singing the national anthem to mark the country’s 77th Republic Day.
In a post on X, Millben addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, the Indian armed forces and the global Indian diaspora, writing, “my beloved India, and Indian communities across the world, Happy 77th Republic Day! Let’s sing together!”

She reminded Indians that Republic Day is a moment to celebrate “your republic and freedom” and said there was “no better way to celebrate this day than to sing the Indian National Anthem.” At the conclusion of her rendition, she said, “Jaya hai to a great country. Happy Republic Day, India. I’ll see you soon.”
Millben is an award-winning singer known for her performances of patriotic music and national anthems for audiences in the United States and abroad. She has performed for five consecutive U.S. Presidents and has cultivated a profile as a cultural envoy and advocate for global inclusion.
In June 2023, Millben sang the Indian national anthem at an event in Washington, D.C., during Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to the United States, a performance that garnered significant attention and was widely shared on social media.
