An Indian man has listed himself as the CEO of several startups on LinkedIn, prompting questions on a pattern of fraud on the professional networking site. Ashish Bagade described himself as the CEO of companies like Anysphere.
According to viral screenshots of his now deleted LinkedIn profile, Bagade has falsely claimed to be the CEO of Anysphere and the Co-founder of Matiks.
To make matters worse, PitchBook, one of the most trusted global financial databases, also lists Bagade as the CEO, raising questions about the authenticity of PitchBook's verification processes.

The issue first came to light when venture capitalist Zach DeWitt shared an alert about the potential fraud on X, he said, "A random guy (Ashish Bagade) from India lists himself as Co-CEO of Cursor (Anysphere) on LinkedIn."

Anysphere is $29 billion tech company behind AI coding assistant Cursor, launched in San Francisco by its real CEO Michael Truell and his MIT batchmates in 2022.
Sudhanshu Bhatia is the CEO of Matiks, a gamified math learning platform he co-founded in 2024 with Sushant Timmapur and Mohan Kumar.
The instance has exposed LinkedIn's lack of verification mechanism and the underlying potential for fraud and abuse.
