Gandhian Society and Indian Consulate pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhian Society and the Consulate General of India came together to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Oct 3, in New Jersey.

Witnessing attendance from around 400 people, including community leaders, dignitaries, and representatives from various organizations, the event centered around reflection, remembrance, and renewed commitment to Gandhan principles.

The Indian Consulate was represented by Pragya Singh, Consul for Community and Cultural Affairs. In her address, she underscored the continued relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings of peace, non-violence, and selfless service in today’s complex global context.

Mahesh Wani, Secretary of the Gandhian Society, presented the organization's Annual Report, emphasizing efforts to promote Gandhian ideals through educational initiatives like video and essay competitions, and cultural programs including talk shows and exhibitions.

He also highlighted the Society’s humanitarian work aiding underprivileged communities in India and locally. Wani concluded with an appeal for donations to support victims of recent devastating floods in India.

The celebrations also featured cultural programs aimed at honoring Gandhi's life and message. A Bhajan Sandhya by renowned singer Varsha Joshi was organized. The evening also showcased Deepak Gupta and his team who presented a play called, 'Gandhi Zinda Hai'. Apart from music and dance performances by local young artists, the evening also witnessed a Khadi Fashion Show, showcasing the designs of designer Sonal Gadhavi.

Bhadra Butala, founder of the Gandhian Society, expressed her gratitude to all attendees and emphasized the collective responsibility of continuing Gandhi’s mission of compassion and service.
