India's Consul General in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, on July 7 visited the Indian Naval Sail Training Ship INS Sudarshini during its port call at the Port of Brooklyn, where he met with the ship's commanding officer and crew.The visit followed INS Sudarshini's participation in the United States International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 celebrations on July 4, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The Indian naval sail training ship represented India during the Parade of Sail along the Hudson River, showcasing the country's rich maritime heritage and longstanding seafaring traditions. During the visit, Commanding Officer Cmdr. N. Ravikanth briefed the Consul General on LOKAYAN 26, the Indian Navy's 10-month global sailing expedition. The voyage spans approximately 22,000 nautical miles, covering 18 ports across 13 countries, with the objective of strengthening international maritime partnerships, fostering goodwill and enhancing cooperation with partner navies.
The New York port call follows INS Sudarshini's participation in Sail250 commemorative events in Norfolk and Baltimore before arriving in Brooklyn for the Sail4th 250 celebrations.
