CGI Manjunath with Mayor-elect Hill / India in Houston via X
The Consulate General of India in Houston D.C. Manjunath met Frisco City Mayor-elect Mark Hill to congratulate him on his win.
Mark Hill won the Frisco, Texas, mayoral runoff election on June 13, defeating businessman Rod Vilhauer with about 58% of the vote to become the city's next mayor.
Hill, an attorney and Frisco ISD school board member, succeeds longtime Mayor Jeff Cheney and will oversee one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, with priorities including growth, infrastructure, and public safety.
Talking about the meeting, the CGI Houston said on X, "The discussion focused on strengthening economic cooperation and enhancing people-to-people connect between India and the City of Frisco, including opportunities for closer engagement in trade, investment, innovation, education, and community partnerships."

The meeting between the Mayor-elect and the Consul General comes amid growing anti-Indian sentiment within the city with multiple instances of hate coming to light over the past few months, including a recent Indian Flag tearing incident causing significant uproar from the Indian-American community.
The incident, which took place during an anti-immigration demonstration in Frisco was widely shared on X and other social media platforms. The footage shows a man ripping apart the Indian tricolour as onlookers cheered, clapped and shouted slogans including "F*** India."
The Consul General met Hill at the Frisco City Hall, meters away from where the Indian tricolor was torn weeks ago.
The anti-Indian sentiment is cascading over rising concerns about significant demographic change in the city. The city's South Asian population has grown from about 2 percent of residents to 33 percent, over the last two decades. This has prompted multiple critics to allege an "Indian takeover" of the city.
According to NBC DFW, when asked how the community should respond to that change, Hill said, "I think everybody handles it differently. I mean, that's a good question. I think the city is experiencing that. Honestly, North Texas is experiencing it. If you look at the data, it's not just Frisco. I always like to respond by saying whatever growth Frisco is experiencing, we are a safe community,"
