She served as the deputy head of mission and head of department for international trade in Chennai, India, from 2014 to 2017, before being deputed to the United States in 2021 as the deputy consul general of the U.K. in San Francisco. In 2023, she was promoted to the office of His Majesty’s consul general in San Francisco.

Tarandip “Tammy” Kaur Sandhu had been deeply involved in community activities during her time at the San Francisco consulate.

Sandhu, a British diplomat of Indian origin, took part in the celebration of India’s 75th Republic Day at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco with friends and colleagues from the diplomatic and business community and highlighted the “deep relationship and shared ties between the UK and India” as well as the importance of the “Indian diaspora in the Bay Area — from business to innovation to food!”

Talking about her appointment, Sandhu said on LinkedIn, “Honoured to be appointed the next British Ambassador to the Holy See. The relationship between the United Kingdom and the Holy See has never been more important — a partnership underscored by the State Visit by The King and The Queen in October 2025, and the shared commitment to peace and tackling the global issues of our time.”

Sandhu highlighted her vast experience representing the Crown in Morocco, Brussels, India, Iraq and the United States, noting, “I look forward to bringing this experience to my role as His Majesty’s Ambassador and to working with the Holy See, a unique institution and a central diplomatic and moral voice on the global stage.”

Sandhu holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Warwick and a master’s degree in international public policy from University College London.
