University of Birmingham Associate Professor Dr. Ruchi Gupta was awarded the 2025 Women in Tech Award on Sept. 8.
Gupta won the Academic Award for her ground-breaking research in healthcare technologies, pioneering research on novel optical biosensors that are transforming approaches to disease detection, particularly in cancer diagnosis.
For her biosensors research, she has secured research funding worth over USD 3.4 million and also has 49 publications to date. Her hydrogel sensing technology has garnered worldwide recognition and a patent.

The award also acknowledges Dr. Gupta's dedication to promoting women in STEM, guiding a diverse range of talent, and spearheading efforts to motivate the next generation while influencing scientific innovation and academic distinction.
Sharing her excitement, Gupta told the University of Birmingham, "I am delighted to win the National Women in Tech 2025 Academic Award. It is humbling to win this prestigious award among so many fantastically talented women!"
The annual Women in Tech Awards highlight and recognise the ongoing contribution of women in the tech sector in the UK. The awards aim to raise the visibility of women in this space and enable the next generation to "see it and therefore aspire to it".
