Puerto Rican singer, rapper and cultural activist Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, popularly known as Bad Bunny, marked this Fourth of July with a bold political statement on immigration through the release of a new music video.

Halfway through the "NUEVAYoL" video, a voice strikingly similar to President Donald Trump echoes through a boombox reminiscent of the 1970s. In the voiceover, the speaker declares, “I made a mistake. I want to apologize to the immigrants in America. I mean the United States.”

“I know America is the whole continent. I want to say that this country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans,” the altered Trump voice says.

The video is the lead single from his latest album Debí Tirar Más Fotos and was directed by Renell Medrano. Set across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Harlem, it reimagines Independence Day through the immigrant experience in the United States. Visuals of quinceañeras, street celebrations, and New York City life blend with politically charged scenes—most notably, one showing a Puerto Rican flag planted atop the Statue of Liberty.

The video ends with the message “Juntos somos más fuertes” (“Together we are stronger”) displayed on screen, accompanied by scenes of Puerto Rican and broader Latinx communities thriving in the city.

The release comes amid escalating political debate over immigration enforcement. Just a day earlier, Congress passed the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” expanding ICE’s powers and funding thousands of new agents and detention beds. The move has triggered widespread protests, including “No Kings Day” demonstrations across U.S. cities.

Bad Bunny has consistently used his platform to criticize anti-immigrant policies, including recent ICE raids in Puerto Rico. He has previously taken aim at U.S. immigration enforcement through his social media and public appearances.
