The University of New South Wales Bengaluru campus has received approval from the apex statutory body for Indian higher education to establish and operate its first international campus in Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone in the growing India-Australia education partnership.

Granted by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the approval confirms that the Sydney-based university meets the regulatory and quality standards prescribed by the UGC for foreign higher education institutions operating in India, assuring prospective students and parents of academic quality, governance, and student experience.

After receiving the key approval, UNSW noted that classes will commence this August at the Embassy Manyata Business Park in Bengaluru.

The UNSW Bengaluru campus will initially offer undergraduate degrees in Business, Computer Science, and Data Science, along with a postgraduate degree in Cyber Security. The university also plans to introduce further programs in the next academic year.

Additionally, UNSW also claimed that students enrolling at its Bengaluru campus will be the first to receive the educational experience of a globally top-20 university in India, offering the same academic standards and internationally recognized qualifications as its Australian campuses while gaining industry exposure in one of the country's leading technology and innovation hubs.

UNSW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Attila Brungs said, “Receiving the Letter of Approval from the UGC is an important milestone for UNSW Bengaluru and reflects our long-term commitment to India. Guided by UNSW’s 10-year strategy, ‘Progress for All,’ we are proud to bring UNSW’s globally recognized education model closer to Indian students while contributing to deeper academic and research collaboration between Australia and India."

Brungs continued, “Bengaluru’s position as a global technology and innovation hub makes it an ideal location for our first campus in India. Through strong industry integration, future-focused programs, and global academic standards, we aim to prepare students for the rapidly evolving workforce and careers of the future.”

The Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, remarked, “The approval of UNSW Bengaluru by the Indian government is further endorsement of the quality of Australian education."

The High Commissioner added, "It reflects the growing strength of the Australia-India education relationship and the shared commitment of both countries to advancing research, innovation, and talent development.”

The university noted that the launch of UNSW Bengaluru reflects the growing momentum of international universities establishing campuses in India under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework and UGC regulations for foreign higher education institutions.
