Arashdeep Singh / Toronto Police
Toronto Police Service arrested Brampton resident, 23-year-old Arashdeep Singh, on charges of fraud, on April 22.
In July 2024, two elderly residents were at home when several men approached them, posing as legitimate contractors and City of Toronto workers.
The victims were allegedly persuaded to pay for supposed “roof repairs,” “mandatory backyard clean-ups,” and “emergency home repairs,” but the work was either unnecessary or never completed.

The victims were informed that they represented businesses including Xcellent Custom Homes Ltd, Friendly Masonry Ltd. and 17051450 Canada Inc. to commit fraud and dupe their victims.
Singh has been charged with three counts of Fraud Over $5000, three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, two counts of Launder Proceeds of Canadian Crime and possession of proceeds of crime Under $5000.
Singh was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, on April 22, 2026.
The authorities also noted that the July 2024 incident is unlikely to be an isolated incident and urged other victims of such alleged fraud to come forward.
Additionally, the police also urged other residents of the area to be wary of unsolicited contractors going door to door, especially those using pressure tactics and demanding payment in cash/bank drafts or demanding a large down payment. They also advised people to opt for a reputable company and obtain a detailed written contract before making payments.
