The University of Chicago Booth School of Business has appointed seasoned global Indian C-suite executive Ann Mukherjee as program director for its Global CEO program.
Mukherjee, the former chairman and CEO of Pernod Ricard North America, is widely recognized for transforming global organizations through demand-driven growth. Her distinguished career includes roles as global chief commercial and marketing officer at SC Johnson, president of PepsiCo Global Snacks and CMO of Frito-Lay North America. She has also served on the boards of Mondelēz, Hertz and Sabra.
According to Chicago Booth, the program is designed to help current and aspiring CEOs sharpen their decision-making, refine their leadership style and drive significant value for their organizations.

Next month’s CEO cohort at Chicago Booth will focus on a singular goal: driving growth despite constant disruption. There is no one better to lead this than Mukherjee, who assumed leadership of Pernod Ricard North America just as COVID-19 hit. Her expertise is forged in fire; and she even served on the elite team of CEOs advising President Donald Trump on U.S. economic revival during the pandemic crisis.
Mukherjee recently shared on social media that the Booth Business School Global CEO program is designed to shape the next generation of CEOs. “Yesterday CEOs were trained to be ‘all knowing’; tomorrow’s CEOs need to be ‘all learning.’ This program is designed to help drive shareholder return in an ever-changing global environment where yesterday’s rule books are no longer sufficient, where change and uncertainty is the only constant. It is time for a new type of leader, breaking the old-school CEO profile,” she said on LinkedIn.
As leader of Pernod Ricard’s largest business — North America — Mukherjee had always believed in bringing her whole and authentic self to work.

The Booth Business School program, which runs over 10 months with participants engaging in seven courses covering growth strategy, crisis management and values-driven leadership, culminating in a three-day, in-person experience in Chicago, will see several renowned Booth faculty and industry leaders helping the participants evolve into a next-generation CEO. The leadership includes two other Indian Americans — Rishad Tobaccowala, futurist, author and former strategy and growth officer at Publicis; and Vish Sharma, founder and managing partner of consultancy firm Sharma Strategy Group and former principal at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Tobaccowala holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Bombay and an MBA from the Booth School, while Sharma holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and an undergraduate degree from IIT Delhi.
A Chicago University alumna herself, Mukherjee was born in Kolkata; went to high school in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru; and still maintains strong connections with India and often speaks Bengali at home. “I have very strong connections with India and I am very proud of my sari collection. I am as Indian as I am American and am a better person for it,” she had said in an interview.
