The Harper College Board of Trustees on March 11 appointed alumna Bijal Chaturvedi to the board, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of trustee Diane Hill.

Chaturvedi was selected from a pool of 24 applicants following a competitive interview process and will serve until the April 2027 board meeting. She is also eligible to run for the position in the April 6, 2027, election.

Chaturvedi first attended the institution as a high school student and later returned as a clinical instructor in its nursing program, building longstanding ties with the college.

“I’m honored to serve Harper College and the community,” Chaturvedi said. “Harper played an important role in my educational journey, and I look forward to supporting the college’s mission and helping ensure students have access to the opportunities they need to succeed.”

Board chair Bill Kelley said Chaturvedi’s background in healthcare, higher education, and community engagement made her a strong choice for the role.

“Dr. Chaturvedi brings a strong record of leadership, service, and commitment to student success,” Kelley said. “Her connection to Harper as a former student, along with her experience in health care, higher education, and community service, will be valuable as the board continues its work supporting the college’s mission and the students we serve.”

A certified anesthesiologist, Chaturvedi currently serves as an assistant professor of nurse anesthesia at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. She is also president and founder of BDSE Anesthesia Services, providing services to patients across Illinois.

She also holds leadership roles such as GHLC chair of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology and participates in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives through the Illinois Association of Nurse Anesthesiology.

Chaturvedi has also led global health medical missions in underserved areas. She is currently pursuing an Executive MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
